Plain-language summary. We collect what we need to run a travel community — your account, the content you post, and (when you choose to add it) location. We don't sell your data. This document is a good-faith starting point and not legal advice; have it reviewed before public launch.
Ghar Dahilo ("we", "us") is a Nepal-focused travel community. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
What we collect
- Account: email, a securely hashed password, username, and display name.
- Profile (optional): bio, avatar, website, date of birth, gender, nationality, and travel preferences you choose to add.
- Location: when you add a place to a post, check in, or use the map, we store the coordinates and place names you attach. Live GPS is used only while you have a location feature open and is not tracked in the background.
- Trip recording (opt-in): if you switch on "Record this trip" in the map's Near-me mode, we store the GPS points of that trip to map real roads and real travel times. Recording is foreground-only (it stops when you leave the map), the points are stored under a rotating anonymous key that is never linked to your account id, and they are automatically deleted after 90 days. The toggle is off by default and you can turn it off at any time.
- Content: posts, photos and videos, captions, comments, place names, and direct messages you send.
- Usage: basic login records (timestamp, IP address, browser/device string) for security and abuse prevention.
How we use it
- To provide the service — your feed, map, profiles, search, route spots, and messaging.
- To surface location-based travel information (fares, routes, places) to the community.
- To keep the platform safe — preventing spam, abuse, and unauthorized access.
What's public
Posts and profiles you mark public can be seen by other members, and — unless you set your profile to private — by logged-out visitors via shared links. You control this in your profile settings. Private messages are visible only to you and the recipient.
Who we share with
We do not sell your personal data. We use a small number of service providers to operate the app:
- Cloudinary — hosts your uploaded photos and videos.
- MongoDB Atlas — stores the app's data.
- OpenStreetMap / CARTO — map tiles; Nominatim / Google Places — place search.
We have no third-party advertising trackers.
Your choices & rights
- Edit or delete your posts, comments, and profile at any time.
- Make your profile private to hide it from logged-out visitors.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
Retention & security
We keep your data while your account is active. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. Access is protected by authentication and standard security controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Children
Ghar Dahilo is for users 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product grows. Material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above.
